Katie & Max

Three times lucky! After re-scheduling three times because of Covid, Katie and Max finally said their I DOs at a stylish black tie New Year’s Eve wedding in Evesham. It ended with a bang when Katie’s parents organised a surprise firework display for the happy couple.

Over to the happy couple…
What was the date of your wedding? New Year’s Eve 2021.
How did you meet, and when?
We met at our High School Prom in 2009! 10 years later Max proposed in New York.
How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?
Probably about 15 to 20 – I went to three shops and found my dress at the final one of those – The Bridal Room in Broadway.
What made your one your ONE?
The simplicity and elegance of it – I tried on so many dresses I thought I would see myself in but they always say it’ll be something you don’t expect and that’s so true!
Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?
Yes, but we changed our minds so many times as a result of Covid and just having more time to plan! Our theme was very simple – white flowers, green foliage and loads of candles – simple and classic. Bridesmaids wore cornflower blue.
How did you decorate your venue?
For our wedding breakfast we had a large run of white flowers with foliage all along the top table, decorated with different height candles dotted all along and fairy lights in the background – because we got married in winter all the lights and candles looked incredible. For the centrepieces we chose large white and green faux flowers – they look so real and a fraction of the price if you find good ones.

What were your best decisions for the wedding?
I have a few… Staying overnight at the venue the day before and having it all in one place was perfect for our wedding and guests. Adding a fourth course to the wedding breakfast – so much cheese! It’s a simple one but charger plates are a game changer for your décor.
What were your favourite moments?
Of course all of it! But my parents surprised us with fireworks, which were incredible! Being on New Year’s Eve it was so special, we were able to keep the party going for a little longer into the morning and welcomed in the new year in style.

What were the challenges of planning and organising the wedding?
We got engaged in 2019 and planned quickly for a summer 2020 wedding but Covid had other ideas! We ended up rescheduling three times until New Year’s Eve 2021 so that was really challenging in terms of continually moving the date for not only guests but also suppliers. It was such an uncertain time but I’m so glad we ended up getting married on NYE!
What advice do you have for other brides?
It’s a little thing but when you have your makeup trial find out the brand and name of the lipstick that your MUA is going to use on you and buy one so you can keep topped up with the right shade throughout the day.
