Amy & Isaac
Beautiful barn wedding in Surrey
23rd of August, 2023
The Barn at Bury Court

They didn’t particularly follow tradition, just doing “what felt right” and the night ended with a giant Conga round The Barn at Bury Court – the perfect barn wedding in Farnham, Surrey for this ultra-loved-up couple who maximised the potential of this beautiful wedding space and filled it with love and laughter in the summer sun.
Over to Amy to tell us all about this beautiful barn wedding in Surrey and her wonderful relationship with Isaac…
How did you meet, and when?
We met in Tru nightclub in Camberley on the 29th of November, 2017.
How many dresses did you try on before you found The One?
My dress was one of the first I tried on in the first boutique I had gone to. I went to many other pre-booked appointments but nothing compared to this dress!
What made it your ONE?
I cried when I put it on! Which I did not expect. I just looked and felt like a bride!
What did you do for your hen do?
Had a big night out in Reading, and a fab, fun weekend away in north Wales!
Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?
We wanted to go for rural, rustic, boho and the colours were ivory, soft dusky pink, and wheat, pampas grass and bunny tails.
How did you decorate your venue?
We were lucky enough to have picked a venue that was already gorgeously decorated, which was one of the things we loved about Bury Court. However we added five chandelier lights to hang in the barn, extra fairy lights (so romantic), an A-Frame prosecco tree and a free-standing hexagon, which our florist decorated for photo opportunities!
What were your best decisions for the wedding?
The venue, the caterers and the band. These three things meant the most to us as a couple and we nailed it!
Did you make any cost savings, and how?
I am not very good at being thrifty but we did cost save when it came to booking a mid-week wedding, which happened entirely by accident. We wanted to get married by the following summer, and most of the venues’ weekends were already booked. Booking on a Wednesday saved us a huge amount of money and allowed us to spend it on good food, drink and music.
What were your favourite moments?
Seeing each other for the first time that day, and making it official, was our favourite moment of many magical moments.
Any funny things happen? Embarrassing moments?
We did the conga around the barn! And I took a mis-step during our dance – everyone just laughed – I have two left feet.
Did you follow all the traditions?
If the typical traditions didn’t feel right, we didn’t do them. My mum (who is my rock) walked me down the aisle and ‘gave me away’. We didn’t follow tradition on our top table either – we just did the best we could and what felt right.
What were the challenges of planning the wedding?
Our biggest challenge was organising everything within a year. We had to secure all our core suppliers early, so decisions had to be made quickly – but we are so happy with how all the threads came together.
What are your honeymoon plans?
We’re off to Praiano in the Amalfi coast for 10 days. We LOVE Italy, and got engaged in Perugia last year.
Anything you would have done differently?
We have no regrets as such. I wish I’d remembered to bustle up the train on my dress for the first dance. Isaac was so hot – we were incredibly lucky with the weather – but he wishes he hadn’t undone his tie after the ceremony. If they are the only things we wish we’d done differently, I think we’ve done OK! 😊 Our final wish would be to stretch out the day – having so many people we love in one room and it seems like you only get fleeting seconds with each of them.
What advice do you have for other brides?
When it comes to the planning, do whatever feels authentic to you and your relationship as a couple. It’s your day – make sure you take those moments to yourself when it finally comes around to take it all in and enjoy it.
