From the beginning…
Ellis and Jason first saw each other through mutual friends on Instagram. A follow request and a few messages later they met each other and the rest, as they say, is history.
Jason planned out their Boxing Day proposal perfectly and even hired a photographer – the same photographer that went on to capture their wedding day – to document him popping the question.
With rose petals, flickering candles and their pooch in tow, of course Ellis said yes!
“We first met on the 14th of September 2013,” Ellis smiles, “Then almost exactly ten years later we tied the knot. We got married on the 17th of September 2023, which was also my parents’ wedding anniversary. It was such a significant date and we knew we wanted to marry on the 17th of September to honour my Dad who sadly passed away in 2022.”
So after their romantic proposal, the couple started to plan their perfect countryside wedding in Devon.
Perfect Boxing Day Proposal
Aisle Style
Beautiful bride, Ellis knew from the very beginning that she would walk down the aisle in a dress from the designer label Enzoani. The question was, which one?
“I only visited one boutique, The White Collection, which stocked Enzoani dresses. I tried on five dresses in total, all from the Enzoani collection. I knew I wanted an Enzoani dress from the moment I set eyes on them, the signature trains are absolutely beautiful,” Ellis tells us.
The Rosalie dress by Enzoani was the one for Ellis. She had known she wanted a gown with a long train and lots of detail and this dress was perfect. The fit-and-flare gown featured intricate beaded lace and a double-layered, scalloped lace train.
“I knew it was the one when I stepped out of the changing room wearing it and everyone started crying. Completely by coincidence, our chosen song for my walk down the aisle played as I was wearing it too!”
Ellis accessorised her gown with heels from Charlotte Mills, featuring organza bows, a flowing veil and a tiara.
Jason and the groomsmen all looked dapper in formal black tie suits, while the five bridesmaids glowed in forest green gowns, each with different necklines.
An elegant wedding venue in Devon
The elegant country house wedding venue, Rockbeare Manor set the scene for the couple’s special day. Ellie and Jason were planning a countryside wedding in Devon and this elegant country house with vast manicured lawns ticked all of their boxes.
Ellis and Jason chose forest green and gold as their colour scheme for the wedding day. They hired Unique Designs by Tina to style the venue. Tall floral displays, gold-edged plate chargers and dark green napkins came together to create sophisticated tablescapes for their 110 guests to sit down at.
Ellis admits, “I am not good at anything DIY. Unique Designs by Tina took everything out of our hands and decorated the venue with timeless floral displays, all in whites and greens.”
Thoughtful Traditions
Ellis and Jason included lots of personal and sentimental details on their wedding day. Following tradition, Ellis wanted something blue. It was her mum! Ellis’ mum wore a gorgeous royal blue dress. For her something old, Ellis had a piece of her Dad’s shirt sewn into her wedding dress.
The couple chose to have a sweetheart table during the wedding breakfast, for the two of them to have some time together on the day.
“Having a sweetheart table was so nice. We were able to enjoy the food and talk to each other about our mornings without having to make conversation with everyone else at a table,” they confess.
Don’t rain on the parade
One thing the couple advise is to stop continually checking the weather, after experiencing a a damp wedding in Devon.
“The weather is one thing you definitely cannot control. It poured down with rain on our wedding morning,” Ellis says. “I had been checking the weather every day in the lead-up to the wedding, but on the day, I really didn’t care. You are too busy having a wonderful time and in the morning I was just so excited to get married!”
