Becky and Alex’s rustic Warwickshire barn wedding at Shustoke Barn, detailed their 13-year journey from meeting through mutual friends to Alex’s sunset proposal in Mallorca. With a DIY approach to the budget, the couple created a rustic, Mediterranean-themed celebration.

How did you meet, and when?
We met through mutual friends 13 years ago. Alex proposed on a jetty at sunset on our favourite beach in Mallorca!

What was your budget? – did you stick to it?
We had a fairly reasonable budget and did as much DIY as possible.

How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?
About five dresses before I tried the one!

What made your one your ONE?
Mum cried, hers and my dad’s first dance song was on the radio and I just knew it was a sign.

Was there a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?
Rustic, country barn wedding vibes with a hint of the Mediterranean (the gorgeous olive trees in the courtyard sold it to us).

What did the bridesmaids wear? Why did you choose their outfits?
My bridesmaids wore burnt orange satin slip dresses. I just love the colour and it fit straight into the rustic vibe we were trying to create.

What did your partner and groomsmen wear? Did you choose their outfit together or was it a surprise?
Alex wore a navy blue 3-piece suit with a white shirt and Doc Martin brogues.

How did you decorate your venue?
Foliage, bud vases, burnt orange table runners and candles.

What were your best decisions for the wedding?
Venue, food and music and most importantly our fabulous photographer (he felt like part of the Wedding party).

Tell us about your details – cake, flowers, stationery…
We had a brownie tower consisting of three different flavours, with a mini cake at the top to do the cake-cutting pic.

Did you make any cost savings, and how?
We made our wedding invites, sourced all décor ourselves and our florist utilised all our flowers differently throughout the day from ceremony to dinner to party.

What were your favourite moments?
Walking down the aisle, the first dance and speeches.

Did you follow all the traditions?
My dad walked me down the aisle – A very special moment for both of us.

What were the challenges of planning and organising the wedding?
Guest list politics!

Any regrets? Anything you would have done differently, or included with hindsight?
No only wish we could of bottled up the feeling of the day – epic!

What advice do you have for other brides?
Embrace every moment, take a step back with your new husband and soak it all in as it flies by!
